How It Works
The sequencing batch reactor (SBR) process operates in five sequential steps within a single tank: (1) fill — wastewater enters the reactor; (2) react — aeration and biological treatment occur; (3) settle — aeration stops and solids settle by gravity; (4) draw/decant — clarified supernatant is removed from above the sludge blanket; and (5) idle — the tank waits before the next cycle begins. The floating decanter operates during the draw phase, withdrawing clarified effluent from just below the water surface while the settled sludge remains undisturbed at the bottom.
