Circular grit chambers are designed to separate and capture the grit that is found inside the wastewater after screening process through constant radial flow.
The wastewater is fed into the grit chamber tangentally by the inlet channel. The channel is designed to guide the flow into creating a toroidal motion inside the tank.
This motion causes the heavy sand particles to settle towards bottom while keeping the lighter organic material in suspension. The motion is also supported by a rotating mixer at the center of the tank.
Finally, grit that has accumulated at the bottom of the grit chamber is removed and pumped into a grit classifier.
